What does Mankaded mean?
In the sport of cricket, Mankading (named after Indian international Vinoo Mankad) is the informal name given to running out the non-striking batsman whilst he is backing up. The practice is perfectly legal within the Laws of Cricket, but is often seen to be against the spirit of the game.
Why is Vinoo Mankad famous?
Mankad was the first player in more than 30 years to score a 100 and take five wickets in the same Test and the first Indian to achieve this feat. As such, he is one of only three non-England ‘away’ players whose names appear on both batting and bowling honours boards at Lords.

Is Mankad legal?
Mankading is a term used to describe run out of a batsmen in the non striker’s end of the crease. Although it is legal by the laws of cricket, it is frowned upon. If the bowler fails in an attempt to run out the non-striker, the umpire shall call and signal Dead ball as soon as possible.
Can both batsmen be run out?
Yes. An injured batsman may continue to bat, but use a substitute batsman as a runner, to run for him. If either the batsman OR his runner are runout, they are both runout. As for batsmen at opposite ends, once a wicket is taken the ball is declared dead, and another ball must be bowled.
