Do record labels accept unsolicited demos?
It’s no secret that not every record label accepts unsolicited tracks. As best we know it, all these record labels are accepting demos now. Most of them are independent, so don’t count on them having artists with millions of listens. That doesn’t mean they can’t help get your music to the right listeners.
Can you still send demos to record labels?
Demo submissions should be directed to UMG’s record labels, but kindly note that they are unable to accept unsolicited material. Typically, demos are recommended to one of our labels’ A&R departments by a manager, agent, producer, radio DJ or other industry professional.
What percentage do indie record labels take?
Indie Record Labels Publishing Administration takes 15-20% depending on the service agreement and then the Publisher, just like before, takes another 50% on top of that before hitting the songwriter’s bank account. The flow of money for the Sound Recording also has an extra player.

What happens if a record label likes your demo?
If the label has a specific person or department that deals with new demos, and if you addressed your demo to this person/department, then it may reach the right place automatically. If not, it may take some time to make it over the person who makes the first demo cuts.

Do record labels own your music?
When a record label licenses your music, they essentially purchase the rights to an album from you – and manufacture, promote and distribute it. They’ll pay you a set fee and act as your label for that album in the territory – or area that they licenced the album in.
Is it easy to get signed to a record label?
Signing to a record label isn’t an easy or overnight thing. But the more you become what the labels are looking for (which just so happens to be the thing which will allow you to do well by yourself) the higher the chances of getting signed will be.
