What does Albon suspension treat?
Sulfadimethoxine (brand name: Albon®) is a sulfonamide antimicrobial usually used to treat coccidiosis but can also be used to treat other types of infections in dogs and cats. Its use in small mammals and reptiles to treat coccidia or other infections is ‘off label’ or ‘extra label’.
How do I give Albon suspension?
How is this medication given? Give all medication orally exactly as directed by your veterinarian. You can give Albon Liquid 5% with food if necessary. The entire course of medication should be completed even if your pets symptoms resolve sooner or infection could recur or worsen.
Will Albon stop diarrhea?
What is albon? Albon is an antibiotic in the sulfonamide family and as a bacteriostatic agent inhibits bacterial replication. Management of coccidial overgrowth, a common cause of diarrhea in young animals, is the primary use for albon in small animals.
Does Albon cause lethargy?
Lack of energy or appetite, tiredness, fever. Difficulty walking. Yellowing of the gums or whites of the eyes (jaundice). Contact your veterinarian immediately if you see any of these effects.
What are the side effects of Albon?
The most common side effects are loss of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. These are usually minor and are generally helped by providing food with the medication.
How long does Albon last?
Length of treatment depends on the clinical response. In most cases treatment for 3-5 days is adequate. Treatment should be continued until the animal is asymptomatic for 48 hours. TOXICITY AND SAFETY: Data regarding acute and chronic toxicities of sulfadimethoxine indicate the drug is very safe.
Does Albon suspension need to be refrigerated?

Can you give too much Albon?
Albon should not be administered to pregnant or nursing animals or in animals with kidney or liver disease. Avoid giving antacids within 2 hours of this tablet&rsquos consumption. The major symptoms of overdose might include vomiting, diarrhea or hyper-excitability.
How long does it take for coccidia to clear up?
Several oral medications may be used to treat coccidiosis. Most pets will require daily treatment for 5 to 10 days, but some pets will have to be retreated if the infection isn’t resolved after the first or even second go-round.
